Winds of Change

Fall has arrived and taken over everything like a controlling partner. "Maybe you should slow down on the coffee, dear," or "We're having dinner with the Mufflins tonight. Try to look presentable."

Because the air and the colors are changing around us, does that mean we have to change as well? And if we're being nudged by that same chilly gust scattering dried leaves around the patio, how do we know what to change?

Whether we have the awareness, we change daily.

I hit the snooze six times today, instead of four. That was different. The freeway was down to a single lane because of construction—that's a change from yesterday. I decided to stop watching American Horror Story after the first three episodes of the new season. Total change.

But the changes that matter aren’t the small, daily shifts; they’re the quiet ones that rearrange us from the inside out. Some intentional, others we're dragged through.

But all of them leave a mark we don't notice until much later. And when they are discovered by artist-types, songs are written.

Changes, David Bowie

Wind of Change, Scorpions

Change of Heart, Cyndi Lauper

Change the World, Eric Clapton

Change, John Waite

Don't Change, INXS

Only three states remain before The Maroon Candle lights up the entire country. If someone had told me in June that I would have sales in 47 states, I would have laughed until snot shot from my nose. Alaska and Hawaii!

October will be a month of horror films, horror novels, and plotting my fifth book, an idea already brewing that will move me from the scary human killers in my stories to something a little more mysterious. Dare I say, supernatural? Otherworldly? Monstrous?

Summer Lovin'

Issue 16 August 31, 2026 Summer lovin’ isn’t always about a person. Sometimes it’s about a season where something finally clicks — where the thing you’ve been building quietly for years suddenly catches fire. This summer, my love affair has been with social media and the readers who have found me there. The Maroon Candle set it ablaze. It was the birth of that story and its popularity that led to the comeback of my three previous books. And since they were suddenly acting brand new again it...

Tik...Tok...Boom!

Issue 15 July 29, 2026 The smoke has cleared from the pre-release and the June 4th release day fires, but the candle is still burning bright. It has found new light in a room I thought had deteriorated, like Paulo Tower or the second-floor library in The Maroon Candle. And the light wasn't in the castle's ballroom or great chamber. It was on TikTok. Ready to claim defeat last year after my first three books seemed to lose luster on the platform, I tried my hand at it again for my latest...

Over the Moon and 2s

Issue 14 June 26, 2026 Two years spent writing and shaping the story. Two months spent promoting it. Two book launch events to send it into the world. And now the flame is burning. The Maroon Candle has been lit. That's a bunch of number 2s. Hmmm. Time to research. The number 2 in astrology indicates it is time for self-reflection—to pause, consider what you want from life, and carefully set your goals. 2 also means you may be under pressure from other people, but that you should trust your...
