Life in Books

I've always dreamed of writing a book. As far back as I can remember, reading brought me joy—first collecting The Hardy Boys series, then devouring early Stephen King, which sparked something deeper. I didn’t just want to consume stories; I wanted to create them.

My first attempt was called Ghost Town. I cut paper to the size of a paperback and typed each page on my Brother Charger 11 typewriter, the keys clacking out my ambition one letter at a time. It was crude, imperfect, but entirely mine.

Years passed, but that dream never faded. And eventually—it came true. Not once, but three times. (A fourth coming soon.)

Newsletters are welcoming—like inviting someone into my creative living room, instead of shouting into the chaotic void of social media. Over there, it’s anyone’s guess who’ll see what. Here? It’s intentional. Personal. But don’t worry I won’t ramble. These days, attention spans come with scroll wheels. So, I aim to keep it short, snappy, and worth the pause.

Though we've crossed paths over the years either through school, work, theatre, film sets, or book signings, I've somehow managed to collect an impressive number of email contacts without actually keeping in touch. That changes now.

This marks my first newsletter. It's a quick introduction, or maybe more of a reintroduction. I've spent the past (cough, cough) fifty years collecting stories, moments, and experiences and now I’d like to share a few of them with you.

In the months ahead, I’ll be unveiling each of my books one by one, along with behind-the-scenes glimpses into their creation: the sparks of inspiration, the sleepless rewrites, the unexpected turns, and the emotional undercurrents that shaped them.

Let’s begin this new chapter together.

Life's deadlines.

Issue 10 February 28, 2026 I always seem to procrastinate with these newsletters. My goal is to get at least one out a month, and I'm always down to the wire. My self-imposed deadline. Which has me thinking about deadlines in general. Life's deadlines. Remember that maddening question from job interviews, performance reviews, or that one friend who marinates in existential dread— Where do you see yourself in five years? I used to shudder from it, the way you do when someone chews corn chips...

The Winter Doldrums

Issue 9 January 30, 2026 As we settle in during the cold, treacherous, winter months, let's not forget what brings us warmth. ... are you thinking? What'd you come up with? What warms your innards? Message me, I'd love to hear. What warms my insides? A good book. Recent: Cabin at the End of the World. A good twisty, binge-able series. Recent: His & Hers. A good movie. Recent: Twinless. A good soup. Spicy Tomato Basil. A good meal. Stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole. Good...

Bye, Bye 2025!

Issue 8 December 22, 2025 The new year is almost upon us. As many end-of-the-year lists hit the scene (best movies, best television, best face cream, best smashburger, etc.) some people take a moment to reflect on their own best of. Or worst of. Common elements of a personal year-in-review include: What changed in 2025? What was hard? What was good? What was learned? What are you letting go of in the new year? What are your hopes/goals in 2026? WINNER!! If you subscribed to my newsletter at...
